       Psikolojide araştırma sürecinin en temel taşı "problem" olarak görülmektedir. Bir araştırmaya başlamak için önce sizi düşündüren, yoran, endişelendiren bir probleminiz olmalıdır. Endişeli ve yorma kelimelerini  bir probleme yoğunlaşma anlamında ifade ediyorum. Bu durum sizi korkutmamalıdır.        Problemin  tez-antitez-sentez paradigmasını maddeler ile daha belirgin hale getirelim. Psikoloji bir sosyal bilim olduğu için bu doğrultuda açıklama yapacağım. İlk olarak; "Bilimsel problemin tespit edilmesi" olarak yola çıkalım. Belli bir problemimiz var ve bu problemin  nasıl bir doğaya sahip olduğunu bilmemiz için ikinci bir yola ihtiyacımız var : "Gözlem" . Gözlemlediğimiz problem hakkında veri yani bilgi topluluğunu bir araya getirmeliyiz. Bu aşama da üçüncü aşamamız olmaktadır. Elimizde problemin doğası hakkında ciddi bir bilgi mevcut.                         Psikoloji araştırmalarının en zor görülen süreçlerinden biri araştırma yapanın başka araştırmacıların yazdıkları önemli noktaları ya da orjinal kaynaklardan alıntı yapmaktır. Alıntı yapma kurallarının ortaya çıkmasının en önemli nedeni yayın yapan kişinin haklarını korumaktır. Alıntı yapmak,  bir ürün için ürünün hak sahibine patent ücreti ödemek gibidir. Neyse ki akademik dünyada makalelerin çoğunun bedeli yoktur. Sadece yüksek bütçeli araştırmalarda görebileceğiniz ücretlendirmeler mevcuttur.              Alıntı yapmamanız ise; sanki o eser ya da yazı size ait, içeriğini siz üretmişsiniz anlamına gelir. Bu durum da  kaba bir tabir ile hırsız olduğunuz anlamına gelmektedir. Hırsız muamelesi görmemek adına yapılması gereken en önemli eylem  "Alıntı yapmak" !         Psikoloji bilimi; ciddiyet, disiplin, ilgi ve emek isteyen bir bilimdir. Psikoloji üzerinde düşüncelerinizi yoğunlaştırırken diğer bilimlere nazaran ciddi bir geçmiş literatür taraması yapmanız gerekir. Aslında kronolojiktir. Çelişmez, tutarlı ve mantıklıdır. Somut deliller üzerinden ifade edilir. Özellikle Psikoloji biliminin son 50-60 yıllık bir süreçte bilim kabul edilmesinin temeli tutarlı,mantıklı ve somut delillere dayalı olmasıdır.                       Yukarıdaki girişten de anlaşılacağı gibi psikolojide araştırma ciddi bir somut delil gerektirir. Bunu yaparken sosyal bilimlerde en büyük karşımıza çıkan problemlerden biri bir argümanın "nitel" ya da "nicel" özellikler taşıyacak olmasıdır.      Nitel araştırmalar genellikle istatistik analizleri barındırmaktadır.
